D.V. Dukes, 71 of Smithland, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019 at the home of his son, Ryan, in Smithland, Kentucky.
Mr. Dukes worked for many years at UPS in Paducah, employed at first as a mechanic and then later as a driver. From his youth, he loved anything with a motor, especially if it could be hopped- up or lowered-down. But the best was when it could be race, dragged, or pulled, and it didn’t matter if it was a boat, truck, car, or lawn mower. He shared this passion with his son and other family members.
Mr. Dukes was a Christian confessing his faith at an early age and joining the Sugar Creek Baptist Church. He later attended the Second Baptist Church of Smithland.
He is survived by his son, Ryan D. Dukes of Smithland; two grandchildren, Deagan Ryan Kyler Dukes and McKenzie Marie Dukes; two siblings, Troy E. (Brenda) Dukes of Grand Rivers and Joyce Marie (Jim) Woodyard of Paducah, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dukes was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Frank and Viva Elaine (Dooms) Dukes; his foster parents Gabe and Grace (Strong) McCandless; and two brothers, Donnie Royce Dukes and Willis Lee Dukes.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy can be left online at smithfc.com. For those who would like to make donations in his memory, a fund in honor of his grandchildren has been established at C-Plant Credit Union, Attn: D.V. Dukes Memorial Fund, located at 303 Mill Street in Smithland, Kentucky, 42081.
Smith Funeral Chapel of Smithland is in charge of arrangements.
