Gladys McDonald Downs

Gladys Jean McDonald Downs, 78, of Smithland died Saturday, May 17, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her late husband Thomas Ethridge Downs of Smithland.

Surviving are three sons, Billy Downs of Smithland, John T. Downs of Smithland and Kenny Downs of Marion, KY.; three daughters, Linda Lasher of Jeffersonville, IN, Beverly Shaffer of Smithland and Sherri Hopkins of Paducah. She had eight grandchildren, Chasity Ray, Christi Hille, Megan Liagre, Andrea Conkright, Kina Downs, Erin Lasher, Lindsey Hopkins and Dylan Downs. She had 12 great-grandchildren with two more on the way. She also had several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Rual McDonald and Madge Crawford McDonald, her grandmother Maggie Crawford and a brother Wilford McDonald.

Mrs. Downs was a loving mother, grandmother and a friend to everyone she met. She will be deeply missed.

Services will be held Tuesday at 3pm at the Smith Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Smithland Cemetery. Visitations will be Monday evening at 5-8pm.
