John Harper

December 10, 1934 — January 20, 2013

GRAND RIVERS — John Morgan Harper, 78, of Grand Rivers, died 8 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Harper was an equipment mechanic at Barkley Lock and Dam.

Surviving are his daughter, Patricia (Patsy) Walker of Grand Rivers; son, Dale Harper of Grand Rivers; two granddaughters, Stephanie Taylor of Smithland and Jessica Walker of Grand Rivers; two great-grandsons, Bobby Taylor and Jacob Taylor of Smithland; long-time companion, Etta Diest of Smithland; two sisters, Jenny Choat of Iuka and Mildred Tidwell of Kuttawa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Harper and Mamie Trimm Harper of L.B.L.; wife, Ina Fay Harper of Grand Rivers; son, James Earl Harper; two brothers, R.B. Harper of Calvert City and Pross Harper of Eddyville; and two sisters, Leona Yates of Missouri and Kitty Doom of Grand Rivers.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Smithland with the Rev. Tim Sandahl officiating.

Burial will follow at Corinth Cemetery in Grand Rivers.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Smith Funeral Chapel.
