Joseph A. Thomason, 69, of Gilbertsville passed away on August 2, 2021 at Mercy Health in Paducah.
He was born on October 13, 1951 at Riverside Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. He was a 1969 graduate of Livingston Central High School. He served as Chief of Livingston County DES and Assist. Fire chief of Smithland Fire Department, and served on Smithland City Board.
He was loving husband, father and papaw. He loved fishing, golfing and being outside. His pride and joy were his grandkids that he loved dearly. He was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years Debra; two sons, Josh Thomason and Matt (Brooke) Thomason; one brother, Jim (Karen) Thomason of Hopkinsville, Ky; mother-in-law, Wanda (Guy) Cothran of Smithland, Kyl nine grandchildren, Cameron (Lindsey) Thomason, Olivia Thomason, Jordan Thomason, Carter Thomason, Katelyn Thomason, Gavin Thomason, Carter Thomason, Nolan Thomason, Ashtyn Thomason, and Kylie Thomason; and three sister-in-laws, Pam Mitchell Thomason, Sandra (Danny) Sewell, and Michele Doom.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Z. Sauvage Thomason; his father, Elbert A. Thomason; his father-in-law, Courtney W. Doom; and brother-in-law, Timothy W. Doom.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. on Saturday August 7, 2021 at Smithland Cemetery with the Rev. Troy Newcome officiating.
