Melvin Martin

Melvin C “Bubbie” Martin, 89, of Smithland passed away Thursday afternoon, November 13, 2014 at his home.

He was a member of Smithland First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He has also served as trustee, Sunday School teacher, and treasurer. He was a member of the Smithland Masonic Lodge, a past member of Smithland Town Board, a past member of Livingston County Red Cross, and the P.A.C.S. Board of Directors in Hopkinsville, KY. After medical discharge during World War II, he worked in the Evansville shipyards building L.S.T.’s for the Navy. He retired from Air Products in Calvert City, KY after 29 years.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Imogene H. Martin; one daughter Jenny Martin-Scott; one son, Kenny Martin and his wife Rhonda; two granddaughters, Ashley Scott-Wilson and Lydia Martin; two great-granddaughters, Adrienne and Ally Wilson; one great-grandson, Cameron Wilson; three sisters, Bobbie Fulkerson of Gallatin, TN, Jackie Hughes of Grove, OK, and Martha Lovelace of Scottdale, AZ and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melva Gale Martin; his parents, James A. (Jim) and Byrd Martin; two sisters and five brothers.

Funeral service will be at 2:00pm on Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Smithland with the Bro. Brian Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in the Smithland Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Smithland First Baptist Church building fund, in care of Ann Smith P.O. Box 163, Smithland, KY 42081.
