Russell Joiner

October 8, 1930 — March 7, 2014

Russell “Goat” Joiner, 83, of Smithland passed away on Friday March 7, 2014 at Rivers Bend Retirement Center in Kuttawa.

Mr. Joiner was a retired foreman for the State Highway Department as well as a lifelong minister. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW Post 5427, and the Birdsville Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son, Kenny Joiner of Grand Rivers; one daughter, Tana (Charles) Doom of Smithland; one brother, Elvis Joiner of Smithland; two sisters, Mildred Powell of Paducah, Juette Day of TN; one grandson, Justin (Amy) Doom of Frankfort, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sweet wife, Glenia Joiner; two brothers, William E. Joiner, Jack Joiner; and one sister, Bernadette Joiner. His parents were James R. and Estelle Joiner.

Service will be at 1:00pm on Sunday March 9, 2014 at the Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bennie Chandler and the Rev. Mike Grimes officiating. Burial will follow at Smithland Cemetery in Smithland with military honors.

Friends may call from 11:00am to funeral hour on Sunday at the funeral home.
